About Three Hands

"For 21st Century companies, the key to raising levels of performance is to create a sense of meaning for their employees... meaning arises when people are able to connect what they are doing to things that matter to them." Gurnek Bains, "Meaning Inc.", 2007.

So what does matter to people — employees, managers or owners — in 21st Century companies? More and more it seems that connecting with a cause beyond the core business, interacting with the community in which they operate and understanding their work in the context of society as a whole are all things that matter, and that can turn 'work' into 'meaningful work'.

That is why Three Hands looks for innovative ways to link business, people and communities — the three hands of our name.

One of those innovative ways is to provide learning to people in work through community engagement and social investment. In other words, we develop people through real-life experiences that benefit the community. We do this in the UK and in developing countries.

In fact, our mission is to 'develop organisations and their people by helping them to understand, experience, engage with and benefit the communities in which they operate.'

Through this we aim to create positive impact in two areas:

Business impact

Social impact

Business and society cannot operate in isolation of one another. Our work brings the two together. Read on for more details of how we do this, who we are and what makes our work unique.
