What makes us unique
Our work is unique, but not only because it is based on real-life experiential programmes that benefit the community.
The Three Hands team of directors, associates and facilitators has exceptional experience of working in both the private and voluntary sectors, in the UK and in developing countries. We bring expertise in both community engagement and learning & development.
But it is the way in which we design and implement our programmes that really stands out. First, we always run bespoke, rather than off-the-shelf programmes, meaning that activities can be tailored to both the business and the partner organisation. This involves working with a wide variety of charity partners, therefore offering a wide choice of projects. We then ensure that project activities are varied, dynamic and original, so that they both suit and challenge all participants.
Critically, we build in genuine interaction with the community — for example, with the service-users or 'clients' of a charity — wherever possible. We absolutely believe that 'real' community engagement depends upon genuinely interacting with the community in ways that do not happen in everyday working life, or even in 'standard' employee volunteering programmes.
We are strict about emphasising the business objectives and the social objectives, and assessing the business outcomes and social outcomes, in equal measures. In fact, one depends on the other; a strong focus on the social objectives invariably leads to more success in achieving the business objectives.
Lastly, through active facilitation of the learning & development we place equal emphasis on the task in hand and the learning taking place, and we are not afraid to divert participants from their task in order to consider the learning.
