Fujitsu's CSR project
A small team from Fujitsu Services engaged with education charity The Place2Be over an 8 week period to analyse and make strategic recommendations for the charity’s training services.
The Government division at Fujitsu understands the importance in developing its people and engaging in the social issues its government clients are dealing with. Through a tailored CSR project, the programme focused on specific objectives Fujitsu wanted to achieve to develop its employees as well as making a tangible difference to a charity partner.
Fujitsu chose to work with The Place2Be, a national charity working inside schools to improve the emotional welbeing of children, their families and the whole school community. The Place2Be was established in 1994 in response to increasing concern about the extent and depth of emotional and behavioural difficulties displayed in classrooms and playgrounds.
The challenge for the Fujitsu team of 8 people was to analyse The Place2Be’s marketing strategy for its training services and devise strategic recommendations for how the charity should develop these services.
During the 8 week project the team spent time working with the charity, engaging with its stakeholders in the community and visiting schools, culminating in a presentation to The Place2Be’s Chief Executive, senior management team and Trustees. The Fujitsu team found the experience hugely beneficial; they felt they personally developed through the 8 week period, developing new skills and building on others. Given the context of the development, there was an addition dimension in that their output has provided tangible and real recommendations to improve The Place2Be’s marketing strategy.
Duncan Short, Head of HR for the Government Division said 'this was an excellent initiative that helped The Place2Be in a meaningful way, whilst showing Fujitsu’ support to initiatives that contribute to society at large and giving an excellent learning opportunity to a number of managers with Fujitsu.'
Benita Refson OBE, Chief Executive of The Place2Be said 'the engagement with a team of 8 highly motivated managers from Fujitsu not only helped us with our marketing strategy but also provided our team with the opportunity to benefit from their corporate and commercial experience. We believe that this was a mutually satisfactory learning opportunity for both sectors and hopefully the beginning of an ongoing and fruitful relationship.'
