Standard Chartered’s Volunteering Reward Programme
The reward for Standard Chartered’s top volunteers was a team project in Delhi to benefit HIV/AIDS and visual impairment charities.
Standard Chartered identified 6 employees who had been top volunteers in their local communities – in Uganda, Australia, Hong Kong, Jordan, the Falkland Islands and New York – and rewarded them with a 5 day project in Delhi, India, working with two of the banks’ charity partners: Naz India, a care home for children born with HIV and AIDS; and the Venu Eye Institute, a hospital with outlying clinics around Delhi.
The project began with an introduction to Naz and their procedures, which were only partly written up. They visited Naz’s Care at Home programme, a centre for children born with HIV, took part in netball games with young women involved in Standard Chartered’s GOAL programme, visited a support group for gay men and organised a picnic and sports morning in a local park for the children in the Home. After working with managers at Naz and using all the information they gathered during the week, the team presented their recommendations for improving the charity’s operating procedures and shared examples of best practice from their home countries in HIV/AIDS for children born with HIV.
The group enjoyed a well-earned day off visiting the Taj Mahal, and then spent their final day visiting a hospital run by Venu. This included a session with visually impaired students on Venu’s education programme.
‘Standard Chartered Bank engaged Three Hands to support the planning and execution of a reward trip for six of the Bank’s top employee volunteers. Our employees had a phenomenal trip sharing their core skills to make an impact on the charities in India, and were taken out of their comfort zones. We extend our thanks to Three Hands for planning such a unique and worthwhile experience that was culturally sensitive, impactful, challenging and fun.’
