Co-operative Group team development challenge
The internal audit team at the Co-operative Group applied their skills, creativity and team work to a day of business brainstorming and planning for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Chester.
The Hospice fundraising team raises £1.35m each year in order to keep the Hospice providing high quality palliative care, and needs a structured and innovative approach to ensure that it maximises on all possible sources of funding. The Co-operative Group’s internal audit team wanted to take their 34-strong team out of the business for a day to tackle a project that would use their skills to the benefit of a charity, while developing their ability to work effectively as a team.
The team was asked to audit the charity’s current fundraising strategy and to develop a plan for the charity to attract new corporate supporters. They reviewed the charity’s existing materials, met with members of staff and volunteers, and carried out research on the local area and potential supporters. The team then presented their findings to a panel, including Hospice staff and existing corporate supporters.
‘The reality of working in a real life situation was far more beneficial than the run of the mill team building environment. The realism, urgency and enthusiasm helped focus the teams and left lasting memories with all those taking part. Finding an organisation that fitted with our social goals, over delivered on our expectations and brought the best out of our team was down to Three Hands. The day was a great success on all levels.’
Neil Fletcher, Head of Internal Audit, the Co-operative Group.
