Learning & development / HR

How do you take the leap from simulated exercises to real-life projects for your experiential learning programmes? How do you design programmes that promote skills and behaviour development in a way that is engaging to the individual and relevant to the business? What is the best way of addressing individuals’ learning needs while satisfying their appetite to connect to the real world? And how do you integrate your company’s CSR objectives into your learning programmes?

These are just a few of the questions that L&D professionals are facing as they design learning programmes that focus on behaviours, not just skills; that take into account individuals’ personal, as well as professional, learning needs; and that look outwards at society, not just inwards towards the business.

We help by designing tailored learning programmes and modules that give people real, not theoretical, projects that are tailored to specific learning objectives.

We’ve been fortunate enough to work with L&D professionals with an appetite for innovation and originality. It can take a leap of faith to engage a group in a real project that cannot be run like a conventional, simulated experience, but increasingly people are seeing how powerful this approach can be for leadership, management, talent, graduate and team development. The programmes we have run for Sky, Gala Coral, Pfizer and Motorola, amongst others, are classic examples.

We’re finding there is a similar story playing out for HR people looking for compelling approaches to employee engagement. Initiatives around community engagement and charity partnerships are just one part of the solution but the effects on employee pride, motivation and retention can be compelling. And when it comes to an original and motivating employee reward scheme, and one that resonates with a sustainable approach to business, what could be more effective than rewarding high performers with a community project in Africa or India? (Have a look at how Standard Chartered Bank rewarded some of their high performers.)

A few years ago, when we started out, our proposition to develop people through community projects was not well understood. Now it is a niche, but well established, solution for L&D and other HR needs.
