Charity begins at the office (Financial Times, 15/12/11)

Jan was (mis)quoted in this great FT article exploring the increasingly clever ways in which businesses and charities are working together.

The article looks at how business charity partnerships are becoming more sophisticated, with an increasing focus on corporates benefiting from the exertise and knowledge that are inherent in many charities. It includes some great examples from one of our clients, Legal & General.

As for the misquote - I'm quoted as talking about the risks of companies "treating charities like cleaners". Bizarre! My point was actually something like this: charities are becoming more aware of the value of their knowledge and expertise to companies, and companies are increasingly understanding that engaging with a charity can reap more rewards than buying knowledge and expertise through traditional channels. However, companies should not treat charities as they would suppliers (such as cleaning companies); rather, they need to apply principles of good partnership, such as shared values.

I hope that's cleared that one up! See the article here.
