A quick note to keep you updated with what’s been keeping us busy and, we hope, to inspire you about the potential to combine CSR, HR and L&D for everyone’s benefit.
When the team at Danone Waters UK hit stretch business targets the company rewarded them... by paying for the construction of new classrooms at a school in Kenya and sending five lucky staff members to teach lessons in the school and assist on the construction site. Sky continues to develop leaders through community projects. We recently ran a module that saw participants on a leadership programme spend two days at a secondary school near Slough working with pupils to showcase Sky Sports’ Living for Sport programme – a great example of L&D and CSR working together to address business and community objectives.
We’ve been supporting Legal & General Property to ensure that Central Saint Giles – their major central London development – has a positive impact in the surrounding community. One exciting result is that a young person from local charity Soho Youth will have the chance to interview the world renowned architect of Central Saint Giles, Renzo Piano, at the launch event later this month.
We’ve also been working on our measurement and evaluation services to help companies assess the impact of community engagement on their own people, with a particular focus on learning & development outcomes. Let us know if you’d like a conversation with Tom, our resident specialist!
We’re plugging The Guardian Public Services Awards 2010... Some teams are good. Some are great. And some are award-winning. The Guardian Public Services Awards aim to recognise and celebrate excellence among organisations commissioning or providing services. If your team has delivered lasting improvements in a particular public service then enter today at guardian.co.uk/publicservicesawards. The entry deadline is 16 July 2010.
Our one-day Open Programme on July 8th with education charity IntoUniversity will be an excellent opportunity to sample community-based learning & development. There are more details here.
